IM AN AUNTIE

everyone! I am an auntie, again. Landon Bert Lewis, number 16. He is so adorable and teeny. I have not held a newborn for about a year, so this is great news!
As a matter of fact it has caused me to rethink a few things. Of which, I dont know why, because it is not like I had that kid. Anywho, hopefully this blog will help little girls who want babies to pause and think a moment. Let me just begin with the fact that I love babies! I also know several other girls my age who that get a goofy look in their eye and then raise their voice two octaves above normal when they hold a baby. It is true, something changes in a girl when they see babies. of course, I believe that is only because they see them for a few minutes, as opposed to the whole day. The truth is, girls dont know what they really want. We may know how many kids we want (or think we want). But I dont think that we know what we are getting into. When I went to visit my sister and her baby in the hospital, I realized that it is not all fun. It is hard work, and babies are huge (comparatively). I love babies, and I love it when my siblings bring their babies over. Yet, after this last baby I have kind of realized that having a baby isnt so simple....you have to not only take care of yourself but a baby who needs someone 24/7. According to my mother and my sisters it is hard but it is worth it. It is the first part of that sentence that I think girls sometimes forget. It is hard. so the next time you see a little baby and think "oh i want one," like you are looking into a pet store adoring the merchandise. Remember, that things from afar may look better then they sometimes are.
ps Abby is also an adorable baby niece :)

dis guise
Costumes and Halloween, masks and masquerades, pantyhose and robberies, the one cannot be without the other. Their use? to deceive or hide. Why deceive? Why disguise? The reason is because there is always something to hide. Whether that is to be, to feel, or to do something else.
In a way today we don't need physical costumes...we disguise and distort our physical appearance. At some point in our life we want to act a different way, but we don't because that would unmask or reveal too much of ourselves. Whether it is not calling a guy, not trying something new, overall not taking chances.
Every girl has grown up with the dream of going to a masquerade and meeting their 'prince.' It is a fantasy that has been instilled in our minds since our first viewing of the hopeless romantic videos: Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. Someday our price would come, at least that is what we hope. In our minds we hope for a prince to come and meet us at a ball (much like the all too perfect story of Cinderella) and fall in love with us before he even knows who we are.
We all hope for a prince who isn't trying to disguise or deceive, yet in the process we end up doing it to ourselves. We expect our prince to not use a disguise. So why is it so enticing for us to be masked when our prince won't? We deceive and yet expect not to be deceived in return.

Over confident?
Since when is being confident bad?
Well it appears that whenever I take a test I feel an exuberant amount of confidence. I even double check everything. I then pick up my belongings and happily turn my test in. A smile will then dance across my face as I prance down the heavenly stairs of the testing center. At this point in time I am so confident that I just aced that test. But don't worry, this confidence is easily and rapidly deflated. The once exuberant Julie is now wondering if my memory has failed me yet again.
"Maybe that number is not mine?" (too bad short term memory loss doesn't constitute of losing years)
"Maybe the testing center messed up while correcting my test?"
"Maybe the lies of the high school teachers are truths" ("mark anywhere out of that circle and the computer will pick it up and mark it WRONG!! Even if it is the slightest mark".....okay maybe my paranoid self made up that second sentence, but HONESTLY!)?
These insecure thoughts race across my mind and inflict me with the horrible disease of self-doubt.
Are tests made to frustrate the confidence of students? Students rely so much on the score they receive. Personally, I project my final grade from every test I take. This is due to the fact that NO other assignments have as great of an impact on the final grade in the class. Thus, I study my butt off for (most) tests. And when several hours of dutiful studying has taken place, an individual should do well on a test.
Is it overconfidence from all of that studying and/or the right that students believe they have after studying that cause students to do worse on a test? I don't even know. I could probably create some conspiracy theory. Yet that would not do me justice from the emotional damage that was done. All I know is that I was depraved of my confidence tonight.

Entering a world I know nothing about
I guess you could say I have been pressured into the blogging world. Everyone (and by everyone I mean three or four individuals) around me have accepted and become addicted to it. I believe that acceptance is the first step to addiction. And as you can tell I have succumbed to the first step of the addiction of blogging. In fact it is the same addiction that I have had for other webapps like myspace and facebook. So why this obsession with blogging? How is blogging any different? Quite truthfully it isn't any different. You could do the same thing that you do on blogs that you can on myspace and facebook. The question you would then ask me is, why do you have a blog? The answer, for me (and probably for everyone else), is I don't know. And yet I start today, writing to no one but me, hoping that those who read this will be able to better understand a few things about me. So wish me luck on my newest webapp, and here I go.
