So I received this file from a good friend, Cameron Smithson, who used his phone to film Julie asking me on our first date. A couple of questions arise here. Why didn't she have enough guts to just ask me in person? I don't know. Why was she the first to ask the other on a date? Another question worth pondering over. But it does bring back lots of good memories.

And now we ask some more questions. Why did Julie want to date someone who is so weird and arguably immature? Why couldn't Seth answer Julie to her face? How did this relationship progress? Hmmm...mysteries of life and love.
Here is how we related our first date on our Wedding day.

First official date

- Seth: Julie asked me to Preference at BYU by using a friend’s cell-phone to relay the message that she wanted me to go to the dance with her. I responded via the same way and we were set for our first official date. I realize how lucky I am that she took me. The actual date was really fun. We went to Los Hermanos and ate some Mexican food. We then went over to Kawanis Park to play some ultimate Frisbee. I remember this because in that game I was trying to be on my best behavior and impress my date. However, she seemed quite unimpressed and to prove the point, ended up hitting me in the face with her hand when throwing the Frisbee. This sent a message loud and clear that I was not doing too well. Later on that night, we watched a movie, and she sat away from me making me think that things were going even worse. However, she then came and sat by me and chastised me for not sitting by her (there was no place for me to sit by her, and I had sat down first saving her a spot). The rest of the night was blissful flirtation. We held hands, and stayed up way later than we should have. However, holding hands was another “first” for our courtship, and I wouldn’t trade that night with all its blunders and blessings for anything.

- Julie: It is true, I asked Seth on our first date. Seth and I had just started hanging out around the time of Preference so I knew that if I did not act quickly someone else would try to ask him. It started out as a joke where a mutual friend said that he thought it would be funny to ask by cell phone so he told me to practice on his cell phone. Well it turns out the friend showed Seth this practice and Seth responded soon after. I was glad that the asking part was over, but then I had to figure out how to make a good first impression. We started the night out by going to dinner at Los Hermanos with a group of six couples. Afterward, we went to play glow-in-the-dark Frisbee, I am terrible at Frisbee, and Seth was really good at it so I knew I had to step my game up. In the process of trying to make myself look more competitive, I accidentally hit Seth in the face. I was so happy when they finally stopped the game and started the movie. After the first movie, it was too cold to hang out outside so everyone piled into the back of my eight passenger van and started another movie. I was so nervous because he was sitting so close and not trying to hold my hand. Half way through the movie we “somehow” (according to Seth) held hands. And as Seth would say the rest is history.

That should catch some of you up. Me least of all.
